Hey! I’m Derrick Nelson, owner and operator of NELCO Construction right here in Zimmerman, Minnesota. You’ve probably seen our trucks around town, spotted us on a job site, or come across our work on social media. I wanted to take a moment to personally introduce myself and share the story behind the company.
I was born and raised in Minnesota, and from a young age I was drawn to hands-on work, creativity, and building things the right way. Whether it was cars, motorcycles, or houses, I’ve always enjoyed figuring out how things work—taking them apart and putting them back together better than I found them.
That mindset is what ultimately led me into construction.
Construction runs in my family. My father, Rick Nelson, owned NELCO Kitchen & Bath, a kitchen and bathroom remodeling company that proudly served our community for nearly 40 years.
At 18 years old, I began my own journey in construction as a project manager, determined to gain the experience and knowledge necessary to eventually take over the family business.
Unfortunately, a short time later, my father experienced some physical health problems that forced him to close the doors of NELCO Kitchen & Bath.
After years of building my experience in the industry, 2020 became the moment to bring the family legacy back to life. That’s when I reignited and rebranded the business as NELCO Construction—carrying forward the values my father built the company on while expanding its capabilities for the future.
Today, NELCO Construction is a Licensed & Insured local team known for tackling challenging projects with creativity, integrity, and hometown pride.
While we still take on kitchen and bathroom remodels, we’ve proudly expanded our services to handle a wider range of construction projects for homeowners and businesses in our community.
