Landscape timbers have a lifespan. And when they start to rot, lean, and lose their grip on the soil behind them, they stop doing their job. That's exactly what we were dealing with here - a long run of old timber retaining walls along the back of this Clear Lake home that had simply run their course.

We pulled all of it out and started fresh. The old timbers were removed, the slope was regraded, and we got to work laying in block. Block walls hold their shape over time. They don't rot, they don't bow, and they handle freeze-thaw cycles a lot better than wood does. For a yard with this much slope running along the foundation, that matters.

What you're seeing mid-project is the new block wall taking shape along the side of the home - tiered to follow the grade and keep everything locked in tight. The dirt work that goes into a job like this is just as important as the wall itself. Getting the grading right behind and below the wall is what keeps water from building up pressure and pushing things out of place down the road.

This one is still in progress - Part 2 is coming. But even at this stage, you can already see the difference. Cleaner lines, solid structure, and a foundation that's going to hold up for decades instead of years.
